CHAPTER XV– पञ्चदशोऽध्यायः
भाव चिन्ता : ASSESSMENT OF HOUSES
“ ll भावाः सर्वे
शुभपतियुता वीक्षिता वा शुभेशै –
स्तत्तद्भावाः सकलफलदाः
पापदृग्योगहीनाः I
पापाः सर्वे भवनपतयश्चेदिहाहुस्तथैव
खेटैः सर्वैः शुभफलमिदं
नीचमूढारिहीनैः II “…………………….१.
1. Good results will be produced if all
HOUSES (भाव) are occupied by their own LORDS, BENEFIC planets
own the HOUSES or aspected by BENEFIC planets, or free from association or
aspect (दृष्टि) of malefic planets.
The result
will be the same in case of NEECHA GRAHAS, if they own the HOUSE or if they are
debilitated or combusted or in inimical SIGNS.
“ II तत्तद्भावात् त्रिकोणे स्वसुखमदनभे चास्पदे
सौम्ययुक्ते
पापानां दृष्टिहीने भवनपसहिते
पापखेटैरयुक्ते I
भावानां पुष्टिमाहुः सकलशुभकरीमत्यथा चेत्प्रणाशं
मिश्रमं मिश्रैर्ग्रहेन्ढ्रैः सकलमपि तथा
मूर्तिभावादिकानाम् II “…….२.
2. Learned Astrologers are of the view that
the strength of the Ascendant is adequate and it is beneficial when it
is in trines, the second, fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth from that of a House
occupied by a benefic planet which is free from occupation along with or
aspected by a malefic planet when the LANA BHAVA or any other BHAVA ,for that
matter, are with or aspected by malefics.
“ II नाशस्थानागतो दिवाकरकरैर्लुप्तस्तु यद्भावपो
नीचारातिगृहं गतो यदि भवेत्सौम्यरयुक्तेक्षितः I
तद्भावस्य विनाशनं वितनुते तादृग्विधोऽन्योऽस्ति चेत्
तद्बावोऽपि फलप्रदो न हि
शुभश्चेत्राशमुग्रग्रहः II “……………३.
3. Among the LAGNA BHAVA or other BHAVAS
checked in succession if the Lord of the House is posited in the 8th
house is Combusted, or in the planet’s own debilitation House or devoid of
association of or aspected by benefics , then the astrologer should pronounce that
the HOUSE is totally destructed.
“ II लग्नादिभावाद्रिरिःफे पापग्रहास्तद्भवनादिनाशम् I
सौम्यास्तु नात्यन्तफलप्रदा: स्युर्भावादिकानां फलमेवमाहुः II “४.
4. If malefics occupy the 6th house,
8th house and 12th house from Lagna or any other House
under consideration will destroy that house. Benefics ,unless they are
stronger than the malefics ,will not be
able to produce any beneficial results. This
is the opinion of PUNDITS in ASTROLOGY.
“ II
यद्भाभावनाथो रिपुरन्ध्ररिःफे दुःस्थानपो यद्भवनस्थितो वा I
तद्भावनाशं कथयन्दी ज्ज्ञाः शुभेक्षितस्तद्भवनस्य
सौख्यम् II “………..५.
5. Those Pundits who are well versed in
knowing the properties of HOUSES (भाव) say that the house being studied
is in the 6th, the 8th or the 12th from the
ASCENDANT will naturally get destructed.
The result
will be the same if the said houses are occupied by the owner of the
HOUSE. However if such a BHAVA is
aspected by a benefic planet it will be in a flourishing state.
“ II भावाधीशे च भावे सति बलरहिते च ग्रहे कारकाख्ये
पापान्तस्थे च पापैररिभिरपि समेतेक्षिते
नान्यखेटैः I
पापैस्तद्भबन्धुमृत्युव्ययभवनगतैस्तत्त्रिकोणस्थितैर्वे
वाच्या तद्भावहानिः स्फुटमिह भवति
द्वित्रीसंवादभावात् ll “……………६.
6. The house suffers destruction if :-
(a) The HOUSE, Its LORD and KARAKA (
Promoter ) , have NO STRENGTH,
(b) If they are hemmed between MALEFICS, or
associated with or aspected by them,
(c)
If NEECHA GRAHAS ( MALEFICS) occupy the 4th, the 5th
the 8th , the the 9th and the
12th HOUSE from the HOUSE under consideration.
This will surely be the result in
Case any of the two conditions
told above remains in the horoscope.
“ II तत्तद्भावपराभवेश्चरखरद्रेष्काणपा दुर्बला
भावार्यष्टमकामगा निजदशायां भावनाशप्रदाः I
पापा भावगृहात् त्रीशत्रुभवगाः केन्द्रत्रिकोणे शुभाः
वीर्यन्ज्ञाः खलु भावनाथसुहृदो भावस्य
सिद्धिप्रदाः II “…………७.
7. Any HOUSE (भाव) is destructed during the following period :-
(a)
During the Dasa period of the Lord of the 8th House lack
strength
(b)
during the DASA period of the lord of 22nd Decante lacking
strength
The
incumbent will be SUCCESSFUL if the planets in question, during the DASA of
the planet in question , are posited as given below :-
(a) If Malefics are posited in the 3rd
, 6th , and 11th ;
(b) If Benefic planets are posited in
KENDRA OR THRIKONA ( QUADRANT or TRINE
(c) If friendly planets own the BHAVA is the Lord
of the House. Kindly note that the planets mentioned above should possess good
strength and the effect will take place
in their successive BHAVAS.
Decanate (द्रेक्काण) : The partitioning of each Sign into three equal parts of 10 degrees each. Each part is known

भावानभीष्टस्थितः
पापालोकितसंयुतो निजदशायां

8. Destruction of the HOUSE, is caused by the
following planets during their DASA and ANTAR DASA periods :-
(a) The
lord of the 4rd House from the ascendant. ,
(b) The
Lord of the 3rd House from the MOON.,
(c) The
Planet which occupy the 8th House.,
(d) The
planet whose DHRUSHTI falls on the House.,
(e) By
SATURN (मन्दन).,
(f) By the
LORD of the 22nd DECANTE.,
(g) By the
Lord of the the HOUSE where MANDHI is positioned.,
(h) The
LORD of the HOUSES and NAVAMSAS in which the above said 7 planets are
positioned;
(i) RAHU if associated with or aspected by
malefics or posited in 8th or 12th HOUSE.
“ II भावस्योदयापाश्रितस्य कुशलं यद्भावपेनोदय
स्वामी तिष्ठति
संयुतोऽपिकलयेत्तद्भावजातं फलम् I
दुःस्थाने विपरीतमेतदुदितं भावेश्वरे दुर्बले
दोषोऽतीव भवेद्भलेन सहिते दोषाल्पता जल्पिता II………….९.
9. Any HOUSE which is occupied by the Lord of
Lagna ( Ascendant) will bring prosperity to the person, and Good result.
The good
effects of the houses will be enhanced only if they are glanced by or
associated with the Lord of the Ascendant.
If the Lord
of any house is in 6th 8th or 12th House the
result will be bad. If any planet
situates in bad House the result will be very harmful. If the Planet is having good strength then
the damge will be diminished,
“ II यद्भावेष्पशुभोऽपि वोदयपतिस्तद्भाववृद्भिं दिशे-
द्दुःस्थानाधिपतिः स चेद्यदि
तनोःप्राबल्यमन्यस्य न I
अत्रोदाहरणं कुजे सुतगते सिंहे झषे वा स्थिते
पुत्राप्तिं शुभवीक्षिते झटिति
तत्प्राप्तिं वदन्त्युत्तमा II “………….१०.
10. Even if the Lord of the ascendant is a
malefic, the planet will be improving the effect of the house occupied by the
said planet. This effect will be the
same even is the said planet owns a bad House i.e. 6th. 8th,
or 12th house and the effect of the ownership of Ascendant will take
effect.
“ II द्विस्थानाधिपतित्वमस्ति
यदि चेन्मुख्यं त्रिकोणर्क्षाजं
तस्यार्द्धिं स्वगृहेऽथ
पूर्वमुभयोर्यत्तदृशादौ वदेत् I
पश्चाद्भावमिहापरार्द्ध समये युग्मे गृहे
युग्मजं
त्वेजस्थे सति चौजभावजफलं शंसन्ति
केचिञ्जनाः II “……….११.
11. In case a planet owns two houses the HOUSE
where MOOLA THRIKONA which is similar to that of Exaltation will predominate
and the effect of being in its own HOUSE will be half in the other HOUSE.
Please note
that if a planet having two houses the effects both good and bad will be
experienced first FROM LAGNA. The other
one will experience later. This is the
view of many PUNDITS in ASTROLOGY. There
is another view by equally many PUNDITS in ASTROLOGY that the DASA of a planet
which is in ODD SIGN will produce the effect during first half period and the
effect produced by the same planet in the EVEN SIGN will be during the 2nd
half.
“ II यद्भावेशस्याधिशत्रुग्रहो वा यो वा खेटो बिन्दुशून्यर्क्षयुक्तः
I
तत्तत्पाके मूर्तिभावादिकानां नाशं
ब्रूयाद्दैवविप्राश्निकाय II “………….१२.
12. An
astrologer should predict DESTRUCTION OF A HOUSE IN THE DASA PERIOD of a PLANET
WHICH IS INIMICAL ( शत्रु ) to the PLANET OWNING A PARTICULR BHAVA, or
which lack beneficial ASHTAVARAGA DOTS.
“ II स्वोच्चे सुह्रत्क्षेत्रगतो ग्रहेन्द्रः
षडि्र्बलैर्मुख्यबलान्वितोऽपि I
सन्धौ स्थितःसत्र फलप्रदःस्यादेवं विचिन्त्यात्र
वदेद्विपाके II………….१३
13, Even if a planet is in its exaltation
position or in its friendly house or enjoy all the six kinds of strength (षड्बल), if the planets is in its BHAVA SANDHI (Cusp of the House), the astrologer
should consider this as ineffective Planet.
This must be borne in mind by HIM while predicting the DASAS and
BHUKTHIS.
“ II भावेषु भावस्फुटतुल्यभागस्तद्भावजं पूर्णफलं
विधत्ते I
सन्धौ फलं नास्ति तदत्तराले
चिन्त्योऽनुपातः खलुस्वेचराणाम् II “...........१४.
14. The full effect of the BHAVA is produced when the Planet that occupies the
exact Degrees (BHAVA MADHYA) signified by the particular BHAVA. Planets
occupying the BHAVA SANDHI will not produce any result. When planets occupy the
intermediate position should be ascertained by the rule of THREE PROCESSES.
“ II सूर्यादात्मपितृप्रभावनिविजां शक्तिं श्रियं
चिन्तयेत्
चेतोबुद्धिनृपप्रसादजननीसंपत्करश्चन्द्रमाः I
सत्वं
रोगगुणानुजावनिरिपुज्ञातिन्धरासूनुना
विद्याबन्धुविवेकमातुलासुह्रद्वाक्कर्मकृद्बोधनः II ……….१५.
15. SUN (रवि) is to be checked thoroughly for
the person, father, influence, health, vitality and fortune. The Moon is to be checked thoroughly for the native’s
character, about the condition of his heart, his power to understand, mother,
whether the native will get favours from the government in power and his
prosperity. We must ascertain from MARS (अंगारक) about the native’s courage, his
diseases, his qualities and characteristic , about his younger brother(s),
lands, enemies and paternal blood relations.
From BUDHA (MERCURY) we must check the larning of the native, his
relatives in general, how he discriminates., about his friends, maternal uncle,
and his speech.
“ II प्रज्ञवित्तशरीरपुष्टितनयज्ञानानि वागीश्वरात्
पत्नीवाहनभूषणानि मदनव्यापारसौख्यं भृगोः
I
आयुर्जीवनमृत्युकारणविपद्भृतयांश्च मन्दाद्वदेत्
सर्पेणैवपितामहं तु शिखिना मातामहं
चिन्तयेत् II “…………१६.
16. From referring GURU (JUPITER), we must find
out about our genius, wealth, physical development and sons. VENUS (शुक्र) is to be checked to know about
how wife will be, vehicles, love affairs
and pleasures given by spouse, and ornaments.
SATURN (शनैश्चर) we must ascertain about the period of our life,
livelihood, cause of death, our adversity and servants. RAHU signifies all
about our paternal grand-father and KETHU about maternal grand -father.
“ II द्यूमणिरमरमन्त्री भूसुतः सोमसौम्यौ
गुरुरिनततनयारौ भार्गवो भानुपुत्रः I
दिनकरदिविजेजौ जीवभानुज्ञमन्दाः
सुरगुरुरिनसूनुः
कारकाःस्युर्विलग्नात् II “…………….१७.
17. The promoter (कारक) of the HOUSE (भाव) commencing from the ASCENDANT are (1) the SUN (रवि) ,(2) JUPITER (गुरु),(3) MARS (कुज),(4) MOON (चन्द्र) and MERCURY( बुध ), (5)
JUPITER (6) VENUS (शुक्र), (7) SATURN
(शनैश्चर) (8) the SUN, & JUPITER,
(9.)THE JUPITER, SUN, MERCURY AND SATURN (10) JUPITER (11) SATURN.
“ II सुह्रदरिपरकीयस्वर्क्षतुङ्गस्थितानां
फलमनुपरिचिन्त्यं लग्नदेहादिभावैः I
समुपचयविपत्ति सौम्यपापेषु सत्यः
कथयति विपरीतं रिःफषष्टमेषु II

18. In order to assess the effect of a planet one
should carefully note beginning with
Lagna
( ASCENDANT) all the 12 Houses the exact
nature of the sign whether the planet is in inimical sign, in his own sign or
friend’s sign, or in exaltation.
SATHYAACHAARYA an eminent astrologer says that the benefics occupying a
house will promote its growth and Malefics, the decay of the House. Please reverse this action in case of the
6th, 8th and 12th Houses.
“ II
पापगृहाः षष्टमृतिव्ययस्थास्तद्भाववृद्धिं कलयन्ति दोषैः I
शुभस्तु तद्भावलयं हि तस्माच्छत्र्वादि
भावोत्फलप्रणाशः II “..............१९.
19. If malefics occupy the 6th 8th
and 12th houses from the ascendant, then the evil effects of these
houses will be intensified. Benefics
will destroy the evil effects. This is
the view of MANTHRESWARA. However others view that the benefics will lose their
beneficiary effects by being in 6th, 8th or 12th
house, and will not produce good effects during their DASAS or BHUKTHI
periods.
“ II भावस्य यस्यैव फलं विचिन्त्यं भावं च तं लग्नमिति
प्रकल्प्य I
तस्माद्वदेद्द्वादशभावजानि फलानि
तद्रूपधनादिकानि II “..............२०
20. In the case of Nativity, in order to assess
or judge the effects of a HOUSE . please
treat that HOUSE as ASCENDANT andthe effects of all the 12 HOUSES re to be
reckoned from that HOUSE ( the first house being built, body, appearance 2nd
HOUSE as dhana Bhava etc.)
“ II एवं हि तत्कारकतो विचिन्त्यं पितुश्च मातुश्च सहोदरस्य I
तन्मातुलस्यापि सुतस्य पत्युर्भृत्स्यय
सूर्यादि सूर्यादिखगस्थितर्क्षात् II “..............२१.
21. In the same way we must check the effects of
the FATHER.MOTHER, BROTHER, MATERNAL UNCLE. SON, HUSBAND and SERVANTS treating
the SIGNS (RAASIS) occupied by their respective PROMOTER (कारक) namely THE SUN. THE MOON etc.in the
nativity as the ASCENDANT.(लग्न).
“ II सूर्यास्थितर्क्षाज्जनकस्वरूपं वृद्धिं द्वितीयेन तु
तत्प्रकाशम् I
तद्भ्रातरं तस्य गुणं तृतीयात्तन्मातरं
चापि सुखं चतुर्थ्यात् II “..................२२.
22. Find the House in which the SUN (रवि) occupies. It is from the SUN we
are to determine the appearance of the father of the NATIVE. Please check the 2nd
House from the House occupied by the SUN to know the reputation and financial
position. Likewise from the 3rd
HOUSE find out about his character and brothers etc. From the 4th
HOUSE from the HOUSE occupied by the SUN find all about the NATIVE’S father’s
mother and his happiness etc.
“ II बुद्धिमं प्रसादं सुतबाच्च षष्टाप्तीडां
पितुर्दोषर्मारं च रोग् I
कामं मदं तस्य तु सप्तमेन दुःखं मृतिं
मृत्युगृहात्तदयुः II “…………२३.
23. From the 5th HOUSE determine about
father’s intellegence and peacefulness and from the 6th HOUSE decide the sufferings he has, injuries
sustained by him, his enemies and disease he has. Decide his love and passion
from the 7th House and from the 8th HOUSE from the HOUSE where SUN situates ,
find out his misseries, death and
Longevity.
“ II
पुण्यं शुभं तत्पितरं शुभेन व्यापारमस्यैव हि कर्मभावात् I
लाभं ह्युपान्स्यात् क्षयमन्त्यभावाच्चन्द्रादिकानां
फलमेवमाहुः II “...........२४.
24 All
about the NATIVE’s father’s good deeds and virtues (पुण्यं शुभं तत्पितरं) , should be checked from the 9th HOUSE
from SUN. The 10th House from
the HOUSE where SUN situates is to be checked for the Native’s father’s
occupation. The 11th HOUSE is
to be checked for his financial gains and the 12th HOUSE for his
LOSES and EXPENDITURE.
“ II तत्तद्भावात्कारकादेवमूह्यं तत्तन्मातृभ्रातृपित्रात्मजाद्यम् I
तस्मिन् भावे कारके भावनाथे वीर्योपेते
तस्य भावस्य सौख्यम् II…………२५.
25. In the same manner check about Mother,
brothers, father’s brothers with reference to the concerned BHAVA , its LORD,
its KARAKA; about Mother, brother, son, etc.
If all the above said BHAVA, LORD, KARAKA are strong then the prosperity
of the particular HOUSE is assured.
“ II धर्मे सूर्य: शीतगुर्बन्धुभावे शौर्य भौमः पज्ञ्चमे
देवमन्त्री I
कामे शुक्रश्ष्टमे भानुपुत्रः
कुर्यात्तस्य क्लेशमित्याहुरन्ये II “.............२६.
26. According to others in this field, if the
SUN situates in the 9th house, MOON in the 4th House,
KUJA in the 3rd House, GURU in the 5th, SHUKRA in the 7th House and SHANI
in the 8th House , it will cause trouble to the concerned BHAVA.
“ II लग्नेश्चरो यद्भवनेशयुक्तो यद्भवगस्तस्य फलं
ददाति I
भावे तदीशे बलभाजि तेन भावेन सौख्यं
व्यसनं बलोने II “…………२७.
27. The Lord of the ascendant will give the
effects of the Lord of the HOUSE where-in it situates. If the HOUSE AND ITS LORD are STRONG then the
result will be GOOD. In cse they are weak then ADEVERSE EFFECT can be expected.
“ II यद्भावप्रभुणा युतो बलवता मुख्यान्गगो लग्नप-
स्तत्भावानुभवं शुभं वितनुते
यद्भावगस्तस्य च I
संयुक्तो बलहीनभावपतिना निन्द्याङ्ग भाजां फलम्
कुर्यांतद्विपरीतमेवमुदितं सर्वेषु
भावेष्पपि II “………….२८.
28. Which-ever House has maximum numbers of
benefic dots in ASHTAKAVARGA of the LORD OF THE ASCENDANT, the effects of these
will be HAPPY provided the respective owners are strong and also conjoined with
the Lord of the Ascendant. If the
benefic dots in ASTAKAVARGA (Effects of Ashtaka varga will be explained later) if absent, then the Lord of LAGNA will produce adverse effects. If the owners of these
HOUSES are weak, then also the effects will be adverse. Please make the
assessment of all HOUSES in this manner.
“ ll दुःस्यानपस्तदितरखगृहस्थितश्चेत्
स्वक्षेत्रभावफलमेव करोति नाप्तत्
मन्दो मृगे सुतगृहे यदि पुत्रसिद्धिः
पष्टाधिपत्यकृतदोषफलं च नात्र ll “……………२९.
29. When a PLANET has TWO HOUSES of which one
is DUSTHANA (BAD PLACE) i.e. 6th or 12th House then the EFFECTS will
be the one in which it occupies SWAKSHETHRA (स्वक्षेत्र). Example: Suppose VIRGO is the Ascendant and SATURN
Occupies the 5th House which is identical with the BHAVA
CAPRICORN. Although Saturn has Aquarius
also as its house which is DUSTHANA, Saturn will give only good results of the
5th HOUSE and not the 6th House which is Aquarius.
“ II राशो स्थितिर्मियो योगो दृष्टिः केन्द्रेषु
संस्थितिः l
त्रिकोणे वा स्थितिःपञ्चप्रकारो वन्ध ईरितः ll……………३०.
30. The recognized relations between TWO
PLANETS are (a) when the two planets occupy mutually each other’s sign (b) When
the two Planets remain in the same HOUSE (c) When the two planets aspect each
other (d) when both the planets occupy mutually in angular houses (केन्द्र) (e) When both the planets are in trines mutually.
These are
the five recognized positions between the said two planets.
