DETERMINATION OF DEATH
“ ll तत्तद्भावादष्टमे शस्थितांशे तत् त्रिकोणगे l
व्ययेशस्थितभांशे वा मन्दे तद्भावनाशनम् ll……………..१,
1. When SATURN (मन्द) passes through the RAASI and NAVAMSA of the 8th or 12th Lord
reckoned from any HOUSE , that particular House will be destroyed. The result
will be the same when MANDA goes through the houses which form trines to these
houses.
“ ll रन्ध्रेशो गुलिको मन्दः स्वरद्रेक्काणपोऽपापि वा l
यत्र
तिष्ठति तद्भांशत्रिकोणे रविजे मृतिः ll……………२.
First ascertain the Rasi and Navaamsa of the Lord of the
8th House, Gulika ,Saturn and the lord of the 22nd
DREKKANA when counted from the ascendant. ie. 1/3rd sign equal to 10Deg. Note :- Gulika and Maandi are one and the same and is said to be the son of Saturn
(मन्द) while it is shown in Malyalam as” മാ “denoting son of MANDA
as MAANDI, in tamil, it is shown as குளிகன். During SATURN’s transit if
it passes the said sign or the NAVAMSA or its TRINE death might take place.
“ ll उद्यद्दृगाणनाथस्य तथा रन्ध्राधिपस्य च l
रन्ध्रद्रेक्काणपस्यापि भांशकोणे गुरौ मृतिः ll “……….३.
3. First find the DREKKANA which rises. Also the Lord of the 8th House and
22nd DREKKANA . If Jupiter in its course of movement occupy any of
the said three positions or the formation of three planets or move into any one
when they are trines death is likely to occur.
“ ll स्वस्फुटद्वादशांशे वा रन्द्रेशस्थानवांशके l
लग्नेशस्थानवांशेऽर्के तत् त्रिकोणेऽपि वा
मृतिः ll “………….४.
4. Death can be expected when RAVI
transits through the Sign which represents His own Dwadashamsha, or the NAVAMSHA
of the 8th House or the NAVAMSHA of the Lord of the House in
which the ASCENDANT resides or passes through their TRINE. (Note :-AYURBHAVA is the
8th House. Here Manthreswra says “रन्द्रेशस्थानवांशके” and Hence the
interpretation.)
Note 2 : In Some books I have seen in the 2nd
Line written as “ नवंशे वा “ If this is
correct then instead of RAVI please read
GURU. Kindly also read the note given by Dr. Kapur in this regard.

भानोर्वा भाम्शकोणं गते विधौ l
मृतिं
वदेत्सर्वमेतल्लग्नाच्चन्द्राच्च चिन्तयेत्

5. A native’s
death may occur when the Moon in its course of movement passes through the sign
where the lord of the 8th house situates or the Sun or their
trine. This is to be examined with reference
to both the signs where the Ascendant and the Moon situate.
“ ll लग्नेशहीनयमकण्टकभांशकोणं
प्राप्तेऽथवाशनिविहीनहिमांशुभांश् l
याते गुरौ
स्वमरणन्त्वथ राहुहीन –
भूसूनुभांशकगुरौ सहजप्रणाशः ll “.............६.
6. (a) Deduct
the Longitude of YAMAKANTAKA (Note :- YAMAKANATAKA AND YAMAGANDAM ARE NOT SAME. Yamakantaka is an upagraha and it will
produce good results except on Thursdays since this UPAGRAHA is said to be the
illicit son of GURU (JUPITER) Whereas YAMAGANDAM is like RAHU KALAM. In ‘KAALA
PRAKAASIKA” an authoritative text written by NARASIMHA it is written “ अर्द्धप्रहर कालश्च यमगण्डकमेवच शुभकर्म्मसुयलेन वर्ज्जये सर्वदा नर:” Chapt. XXXIII Verse 65. However, I have not seen any proper definition for
both YAMKANDAKA and YAMAGANDAM. There is
one small note in Jathaka Parijatam that if the 7th Sign is occupied
by an upagraha , the wife will be wicked. ) from the Longitude of the Lord where the
Ascendant situates ;(b) Subtract the Longitude of SATURN from that of the Moon.
The death of the person in question will occur when Jupiter occupy during its
transit of the RASI or NAVAMSA or any of the trine from the resultant.
As far as
the death of the brother is concerned subtract the longitude of KUJA from that
of RAHU and when the planet JUPITER passes the SIGN OR NAVAMSA obtained after
subtraction the death of the brother will occur.
“ ll भानोः कष्टकर्वार्जितस्य भवनांशे वात्रिकोणे गुरौ
तातो नश्यति कण्टकोनगुलिकर्क्षांशत्रिकोणेशनौ l
अर्कोनेन्तुगृहांशकोणगगुरौ च्न्द्रोनमन्दात्मज –
क्षेत्रेंशेऽप्यथवा त्रिकोणगृहगे मन्दे
जनन्या मृतिः ll………..७.
7. Subtract
the longitude of Yamakandaka from that of the SUN. If GURU transits
through the position thus got (resultant of subtraction) in RASI or NAVAMSA or
its THRIKONA position
Death of the father might occur.
Subtract the longitude of GULIKA
( MAANDI ) from that of YAMAKANDAKA. When the father of MAANDHI (SATURN) passes
through the SIGN or NAVAMSA thus obtained or through its trine
Death of mother may occur. This
is also possible if it is from the moon or the trine thus got. Jathaka Parjatham refers.
“ ll वदेत्प्रत्यरनक्षत्रनाथाच्च यमकण्टकम्
l
त्यक्त्वा तद्भवने कोणे गुरौ पुत्रविनाशनम् ll………..८.
8. It is said to subtract the
longitude of YAMAKANTAKA from the the longitude of 5th star from the JANMA NAKSHATHRA. The time of death of the son will come when
GURU passes through the difference in longitude thus obtained or during it passes through its NAVAMSA.

FINDING OUT ONE’S OWN TIME
OF DEATH
“ ll लग्नार्कमान्दिस्फुटयोगराशेरधीश्वरो यद्भवनो गस्तु l
तद्राशिसंस्थे पुरुहूतवन्द्ये तत्कोणगे वा मृतिमेति
जातः ll “……….९.
9. After adding the longitudes of
Ascendant, SUN and MAANDI, find out the location of the LORD of the sign and
/or Navamca from the resultant. When
Guru passes through the Sign or Navamsa , or the trine thus obtained , the
death of the native might occur.
“ ll मान्दीस्फुटे भानुसुतं विशोध्य राश्यांशकोणे रविजे
मृतिः स्यात् l
धूमाधिपच्चग्रहयोगराशिद्रेक्काणयातेऽर्कसुते च
मृत्युः ll…………….१०.
10. Subtract the longitude of MAANDI from that of
MARS and find out the RAASI AND NAVAMSA from the resultant. When SATURN IS POSITED in its course of transit or otherwise or in
its trines he death of the native will take place. It is also possible if SANI reaches
the PARTICULAR DECANTE or a particular SIGN of the total longitudes of DUMA,
VYATIPATHA , PARIVESA, INDRA CHAPA and UPAKETU(Formula to find out the total of Dhuma,
Vyathipaata, parivesha, Indrachaapa and Upakethu is. “ (Dhuma’s Longitude=
Sun’s Longitude + 13320 Deg. ) + (Vyatipata’s Longitude= 360 Deg. Minus Dhuma’s Longitude) +( Parivesha’s Longitude
=Vyatipaata’s longitude+180 Deg. ) + (Indrachapa’s Longitude = 360 Deg. Minus
Parivesha’s Longitude) + ( Upakethu’s Longitude =Indrachapa’s longitude + 1640
‘ (Mts.) i.e. Sun’s Longitude – 30)
Kindly Note that DHUMA & INDRACHAPA are apart 180 DEG. &
VYATIPATA & PARIVESA are apart 180 Deg.) All upagrahas are known as Shadowy
Planets
like Rahu and Kethu.
“ ll विलग्नमान्दीस्फुटयोगभांशं निर्याणमासं प्रवदन्ति
तज्ज्ञः l
निर्याणचन्द्रो गुलिकेन्दुन्योगो लग्नं
विलग्नार्किसुतेन्दु योगः ll ”….....११.
11. The Sign and the Navaamsa got after adding
the Longitudes of Lagna and Mandi will
indicate the particular month and the portion of the year in which the death of
the native might take place i.e. when the sun reaches particular sign and/or
Navamsa the native’s death can occur. Again if the longitude of the Moon and
Maandi are added and if the moon reaches the RASI and NAVAMSA of the resultant
of the addition, the time of death can be said. The sum total got by adding
Lagna. Moon and Maandi will indicate the rising sign Or Lagna of the sum total.
“ ll मान्धिस्फुटोदितनवंशगतेऽमरेज्ञ्ये
तद्द्वादशांशसहिते दिननाथसूनौ l
द्रेक्काणकोणभवने दिनपे च मृत्यु –
र्लग्नेन्दुमान्दीयुतभेशगतोदये स्यात् …………१२.
12. After finding out from the Longitude of
Maandi, the NAVAMSA, Decante and Dwadasamsa (a) if Jupiter in its course of
transit go through the said Navamsa (b) If Saturn in its course of transit
passes through the Dwadasamsa said above and (c) if RAVI in his course of
transit through the decante and the trine position from it and (d) the
ascendant becomes the Lord of the SIGN from
the aggregate of MAANDI, LAGNA and the MOON, the death of the native will
occur.
As per another reading “ the 4th Line in the
Sanskrit verse “मान्दियुतभांशगतो यति स्यात् ” If it is so then instead of “ if ASCENDANT becomes
the Lord of the Sign read it as SUN…………….”
“ ll गुलिकं रविसूनुं च
गुणित्वा नवसंख्यया l
उभयोरैक्याराश्यंशगृहगे
रविजे मृतिः ll…………..१३.
13. After
separately multiplying by 9, MAANDI, AND
MANDAN add the resultant . and when MANDAN in its course of its transit
reaches the NAVAMSA indicated by the
above calculation the Native’s death might occur.
“ ll स्फुटे विलग्ननाथस्य
विशोध्य यमकण्ठकम् l
तद्राशिनवभागस्थे
जीवे मृत्युर्न संशयः ll…………..१४.
14. After
subtracting the Longitude of YAMAKANDAKA from that of the ASCENDANT when
Jupiter in its course of transit reaches
the NAVAMSA thus obtained , the death of the native will definitely take place.
“ ll षष्ठावसानरन्घ्रेशस्फुटैक्यभवनं
गते l
तत् त्रीणोपगें वाऽपि मन्दे मृत्युभयं नृणाम् ll……………१५.
15. Add the
longitudes of 6th, 8th and 12th Lords. The native will die when MANDAN reaches in
its transit the sign or NAVAMSA indicated by the total longitudes or the Trine
of the sum total.
“ ll उद्यद्दृगाणपति राशिगते सुरेड्ये
तस्य त्रिकोणमपि गच्छति वा विनाशम् l
रन्ध्रत्रीभागपतिमन्दिरगेऽथ मन्दे
प्राप्ते त्रिकोणमथवास्य वदन्ति मृत्युम्

16. After finding out the SIGN
etc. occupied by the Lord of DREKKAANA which rises , if GURU transits this Sign
or its trine the native will meet his death.
When SANI in its course of transit
reaches the Lord of the DREKKANA of the 8th HOUSE or its trine ,the
death of the native can also be predicted.
“ ll विलग्न जन्माष्टमराशिनाथयोः खर त्रीभागेश्वरयोस्तयोरपि l
शशाङ्कमान्दोरपि दुर्बलंशकत्रिकोणगे सूर्यसुते
मृतिर्भवेत् ll…………१७
17. Find which
is the weak planet among the three given in here : (a) The lord of the 8th
House (b) 22nd Drekkana from
Lagna and the MOON (c) CHANDRA and MAADHI.
When SANI transits through the NAVAMSA or the TRNE of the
weakest among above said planet death might be caused.
“ ll लग्नाधिपस्थितनवांशकराशितुल्यं रन्ध्राधिपस्य गृहमापतिते घटेशे l
तस्मिनंवदेन्मरणयोगमनेकशास्त्रसंक्षुण्णखिन्नमतिभिःपरिकीर्तितं
तत् ll “…….…१८.
18. Check in
which SIGN the Navamsa Lord of the ASCENDANT occupies. See how far it has moved
from ARIES. When SANI transits the sign as far away from the 8th
HOUSE death might occur. Thus says the
experts in Astrology.
“ ll शशाङ्कसंयुक्तदृगाणपूर्वतःखरत्रीभागेशगृहं गतेऽपि वा l
त्रिकोणगे वा
मरणं शरीरिणां शशिन्यय स्यात्तनुरन्ध्ररि:फगे ll “...............१९.
19. It is also possible that death might occur
when the MOON while in transition passes through the RAASI occupied by the Lord
of 22nd drekkaana when counted from the MOON at the time of birth
or its position of trine or through the SIGN of LAGNA, 8th
or 12th HOUSE.
“ ll निधनेश्वरगतराशौ भानाविन्दौ तु भानुगतराशौ l
निधनाधिपसंयुक्ते नक्षत्रे
निदिशेन्मरणम् ll…………………………………२०.
20. The death of the native is likely to take
place when (a) the SUN in its transition passes through the SIGN (राशि) occupied by the Lord of the 8th House; (b) When MOON in its
course of transition occupies the sign occupied by SUN at the time of birth or
the NAKSHATHRA occupied by the LORD of the 8th HOUSE. (Remember that 8th
HOUSE is AYUR BHAAVA ) .
“ ll यो राशिर्गुलिकोपेतःतत् त्रीकोणगते शनौ l
मरणं निशिजातानां दिविजानां
तदस्तके ll……………………………….२१.
21. In the case of birth during night, when
Saturn passes through the sign triangular to the position of MAANDHI the death
of the native will take place;
If the
birth is during Day Time the death of the native will take place when SATURN
while in transit passes through the 7th house when counted from
MANDHI.
“ ll गुरुराहुस्फुटेक्यस्य राशिं यातो गुरुर्यदा l
तदा तु निधनं विद्यात्तत्रिकोणगतोऽथवा ll……………………………….२२.
22. After adding the SPUTHA ( LONGITUDES) of JUPITER AND RAHU, when Jupiter passes
through the sum got after adding the LONGITUDES in its course of transition or
its trine death of the native will take place.
“ ll अष्टमस्य त्रिभागांशपतिस्थितगृहं शनौ l
तदीशनवभागक्षै गते वा मरणं भवेत् ll…………………………………..२३.
23. When Saturn (शनैश्चर) passes through the lord of the DREKKANAM of the 8th HOUSE on its
course of transition , death of the NATIVE can occur.
The death
of the NATIVE can also take place when SATURN in its course of transition pass
through the NAVAMSA occupied by the 8th House counted from
Ascendant.
“ ll जन्मकाले शनौ यस्य जन्माष्टमपतेरपि l
राशेरंशकराशेर्वा त्रिकोणस्ये शनौ मृतिः
ll………………२४.
24. Death is likely to occur if SATURN in its
transit moves through the RAASI and NAVAMSA occupied by the planet at birth or
its trines. The likelihood of death is
possible if SATURN in its transit moves through the lord of the sign occupied
by the MOON or its trines or the 8th House from the ascendant.
“ ll निशीन्दुराशौ चेज्जन्म मान्दिभेंऽशे शनिमृतिः l
दिवार्कभे चेत्तद्यूनात्रिकोणे वा शनौ मृतिः ll…………..२५.
25. When birth takes place during NIGHT the
death of the NATIVE might take place when Saturn while in transition pass
through the SIGN OR NAVAMSA of the MOON or MANDHI. If the birth takes place
during the Day time death is likely to take place, when SANI during his course
of transition passes through the SIGN or
NAVAMSA occupied by the SUN or the 5th House, 7th House or the 9th house from the
sign in which the SUN is posited.
“ ll रन्ध्रेश्वराद्यावती भे मान्दिस्तावति भे तत:
l
शनिश्चेन्मरणं ब्रूयादिति सद्गुरुभाषितम्

26. Please ascertain as to how far MAANDHI has
transited from the LORD of the 8th
HOUSE. When SANI in its course of transition arrives at a RAASI so far
MAANDI is removed, death of the
NATIVE might take place as said by eminent teachers of astrology.
“ ll जन्मकालीनभृगुजात्कामाशत्रु व्यये रवौ l
मरणं निश्चीतं ब्रूयादिति सद्गुरुभाषितम् ll……………२७.
27. The death of the NATIVE is certain if the
SUN in its transition passes through the 6th , 7th , or
12th House from the house where Venus situates thus says the
preceptors.
“ ll तिष्ठन्त्यष्टमरिःफषष्ठपतयो रन्ध्रत्रिभागेश्वरो
मान्धिर्यद्भवनेषु तेष्वपि गृहेष्वार्कीड्यसूर्येन्दवः l
सर्वे चारवशात्प्रयान्ति हि यदा मृत्युस्तदा स्यान्नृणाम्
तेषांशवशाद्वदन्तु निधनं तत्तत्त्रीकोणेऽपि
वा ll………२८.
28. First ascertain the position of
the Lord of the 8th HOUSE, 12th
HOUSE, 6th HOUSE , Maandhi and 22nd drekkanam .Death
might occur when SHANI, GURU, RAVI and CHANDRA when in transition
pass through the above-said houses. This
will also happen when these said grahas pass through the trines of 8th
House, 12th House, 6th House,
Maandhi position and 22nd drekkanam.
