1. Sage
Parashara who worshipped the NAVAGRAHAS in many ways for long time was blessed
and bestowed upon him the knowledge of accurately predicting the effects of all
planets in different houses. Being convinced that those are unfailing,
Manthreswara says that he is taking the essence of PARASHARA’S FAMOUS script of
Astrological works on “MAHA DASAS”. Note: - Parashara’s
BRUHATH PARASHARA HORA SHAASTRA refers.
“ ll अग्न्यादितारपत्यो रविचन्द्रभौम-
सर्प्पमरेङ्यशनिचन्द्रजकेतुशुक्राः

तेनेनटः सनिजया चटुधान्यसौम्य-

2. If we
count the Nakshthras from KRITHIKA in
group of NINE NAKSHTHRAS will be having the DASAS starting from SUN (रवि), THE MOON (चन्द्रा), THE MARS (कुज अथवा अङ्गारक), RAHU or SARPI ( राहु अथवा सर्पि ), JUPITER (गुरू),
SATURN ( शनि अथवा मन्दन ), MERCURY (बुध), KETHU (केतु अथवा शिखी),
and VENUS (शुक्र अथवा भृगु) . In other words while RAVI DASA starts with KRITHIKA, CHANDRA DASA will start from ROHINI and others
in this order. For the beginner’s sake I
give the following table with No. of years the Dasa will give its result.

3. in these verses, Manthreswara explains the method of finding the Balance Dasa at the
time of Birth. Herein he
says, first to find out the GHATIKAS etc
which are still to be traversed by the star in the MOON.
Afterwards to mulitiple these Ghatikas etc by the
Total period of DASA and divide it by 60,
The quotient obtained from this process will show the reminder of No. of
years to be passed after birth in the DASA .
Any reminder obtained in this process is to be converted first in months
for which the reminder is to be multiplied by 30 and then to be divided by 60
and thus to continue this process to get days and so on.
Now I am giving an example below

Suppose the Time of Birth the PUNARVASU STAR is
still to complete 20 GHATIKAS AT THE TIME OF BIRTH. Now let us find out Balance of GURU DASA
which remains at the time of BIRTH.
20 x 16 ((Total Period of Jupiter Dasa is 16 Years) = 16 = 5 years and Balance = 1

4. In *UDU DASA or NAKSHATHRA DASA or
VIMSHOTTARI DASA (all means the same) ( उडु दश/नक्षत्र दश/विंशोत्तरी दश ) the exact position of the SUN in the Zodiac at the
birth time of the native is to be found out. ( This is
a difficult task since each watch shows different time ) When the sun reaches the same position the
time taken to travers to that position is to be taken as ONE SOLAR YEAR which
is the year for the VIMSOTTARI DASA in what is called as NAKSHATHRA DASA
SYSTEM. If we sub- divide the balance obtained we get the number of days. This
method is very accurate and hence computerized horoscopes give the correct Dasa
period provided we get the correct time of birth, and AYANAAMSA.

5. In
general, if the SUN is placed badly during the time of birth, during the SUN’S
DASA PERIOD, the person will get entangled in unnecessary quarrels, and will be
subjected to the wrath of the KING or even his/her superiors (as per the
present context). There will be
accidental difficulties to his/her close relatives and the person might also be mentally upset. There will be quarrels
between the native and others and will suffer from bitter anxieties or even
will become mad or wander here and there and will be subjected to loss of
wealth and decease to children and wife.
For readers’ sake I quote from parasara Hora
Shastra the following text in SANSKRIT :-

In Paraashara
Horaashaasthra we find Him saying 1st the good effects of SUN DASA See
Verses 7 to 11 in This Book. From verses 12 to 15 Paraashara Maharshi gives the
adverse effects which are also given herein. Hence do not become an astrologer who tells only the
bad effects of SUN DASA which most astrologers consider as bad.

Herein
Manthreswara gives the good results of RAVI DASA in a crisp manner (as given in
verse 5.)

करोति सुस्थो विजयं दिनेशस्तैक्ष्ण्यं

6. If
the SUN is well placed, the native will acquire wealth by cruel means, travel
and disputes, princely life roaming through forests, great fame, success in
business, will be hot tempered, ill-natured, will devote in duties, will lead a
happy life. ( Friends,
I feel there is some difference from Sage Parashara and Manthreswara’s
interpretation )

7. The following are the effects during Moon Dasa
:-
(a)
Peace of Mind (b) Success in all
efforts (c) Wealth gain (d) Good Food
(e)
Will get married and will have sons
(f) will acquire good clothes and cows
(g) will possess agricultural
lands (h) will have devotion towards Brahmins.

दशाहे परिपूर्ण वीर्यं तृतीयभागेऽल्पफलं क्रमेण

8. Results
are to be declared after checking the strength of the moon. During the first 10 days of a Lunar Month the
effect will be moderate (मध्यं). After the first ten days the
strength will be full during the last period i.e. when the moon is waning the
effect will also
Gradually decrease. ( अल्प फलं क्रमेण )
“ ll भौमस्य स्वदशाफलानि हुतभुग्भूपाहवाद्यैर्धनम्
भैषज्यानृतवञ्चनैश्च विविधैःक्रौर्यैर्धनस्यागम l
पित्तासृग्ज्वरबाधीतश्च सततं नीचाङ्गनासेवनम्
विद्वेषः सुतदारबन्धुगुरुभिःकषटोऽन्यभाग्ये रतः.......९.
9. During
the Dasa of Mars a person will make money by fraudulent means or through fire
or from joining the armed forces of the country. He/She will suffer from bile, and will suffer from impurity of blood
etc. He will associate with prostitutes
(नीचाङ्गना सेवनम्) and quarrel with wife, children,
relatives and those instrumental in teaching him.
“ ll सौम्य : करोति सुहृदागममात्मसौख्यं
विद्वत्प्रशंसितयशश्च गुरुप्रसादम्
l
प्रागल्भ्यमुक्तिविषयेऽपि परोपकारम्
जायात्मजाहृदाम् कुशलं सहतवम्

10. The
meaning of this stanza is that in BUDHA (SOUMYA) Dasa i.e. the Dasa period of
Mercury the native will meet his/her friends who will meet him/her by which he/she
will achieve self-happiness will attain the
fame from learned persons. and will be benefitted by his/her preceptors, will
be an eloquent speaker, will help the needy and the wife/husband children will be befitted this Dasa of the
Native.
“ ll धर्मक्रियाप्तिममरेन्रगुरु र्विधत्ते संतानसिद्धिमवनीपतिपूजनम्

श्लाघ्यत्वमुन्नतजनेषु गजाश्चयानप्राप्तिं
बन्धुसुतसुहृद्युतिमिष्टसिद्धिम् ll “............... ११.
11. The native will get involved in religious work
(pooja, charity etc.) will beget children, will be honored by the government,
will be praised by distinguished people, will acquire elephants, vehicles,
horses etc. and all ambitions will be fulfilled, will have good relationship or
meet relatives, children and friends.

गोरत्नभूषणनिधि प्रमदाप्रमोदम् l
ज्ञानक्रियां सलिलयानमुपैति शौक्रयां
कल्याणकर्म बहुमानमिलाधिनाथात्

12. During
the SHUKRA (VENUS) DASA PERIOD the
native will get articles and places for his/her games (क्रीड) , will lead a happy life (
can also get a virtuous and good looking wife/husband) , will acquire
good vehicles like car etc. cows, good
ornaments made with precious stones, treasure (निधि), will enjoy life with opposite sex, will make intellectual pursuits, will
travel by seas, will be honored by the government, will perform auspicious
functions . ( Note : Crossing the sea is prohibited for Brahmins )
“ ll पाकेऽर्क्कजस्य निजदारसुतातिरोगा –
वातोतरान्कृषिविनाशमसत्प्रलापम् l
कुस्त्रीरतिं परिजनैर्वियुतिं प्रवास –
माकस्मिकं स्वजनभूमिसूकार्थनाशम्

13. During SHANI DASA the wife and
children of the NATIVE will suffer from WINDY DISEASES such as gout, rheumatism
etc. will suffer loss from agricultural lands,
will get involved in evil talks, will have intimacy with bad chartered
women, will suffer loss of servants, loss of wealth etc.
“ ll कुर्यार्दहिः क्षितिपचोरविविशाघ्निशस्त्र –
भीतिं
सुतार्तिमतिविभ्रमबन्धुनाशम् l
नीचावमानमतिक्रमतोऽपवादम्
स्थानच्युतिं पदहतिं कृतकार्यहानिम्

14. During
RAAHU DASA, the native will suffer from ignominy from the king or the Government,
will suffer from fear from theft, poison, fire and weapons, and distress to own
children. The native will have ruffled mind and will suffer from loss of
relatives. The native will be humiliated
by low caste people will be demolished from status like dismissal from office
etc. the native will suffer from loss of wealth and loss in all ventures.

15. During the DASA period of RAHU, it will give
beneficial results if Rahu is associated with benefic planets or posited in an
auspicious house. The native will enjoy
the life like a king, will be successful in getting all desired jobs fulfilled
, will lead a happy life in his house and his wealth will steadily grow and his
fame will spread all over the earth.

पथोनमीनालिगतस्य राहोर्दशाविपाके महितं च सौख्यम् l
देशाधिपत्यं नरवाहनाप्ति दशावसाने सकलस्य नाशः ll

16. Some learned in astrology opine that RAAHU
during its Dasa period if placed in VIRGO (कन्या), PISCES (मीना) or SCORPIO ( वृश्चिक ) , will endow on the concerned native all the above
said goods but during the end of the Dasa will lose all the goods earned.
“ ll केतोर्दशायामरिचोरभूपै: पीडा च शस्त्रक्षतमुण्णरोगः l
मिथ्थ्यापवादः कुलदूषितत्वं वह्नोर्भयं प्रोषणमात्मदेशात् ll

17. The following
are the effects of KETHU DASA :-
During the period of KETHU DASA the Native will have to face dangers
from the enemies, thieves, the king’s (government’s) wrath, sufferings from
injury through weapons, diseases caused by heat, fear of stigma to the entire family and self
and deportation from the native’s own country.
Although the general effects are given above in
VIMSHOTHARI DASA SYSTEM this should not be applied in all cases we are to
follow the rules applied by PARASARA under this the 11th House (लाभस्थानम्) is termed as PAAPI (पापि) . Likewise the 3rd and the 6th HOUSES are
also to be considered as BAD the effects of PAAPA is less in 3rd house, and the
great malefic is the 11tth House.
“ ll अथ तरणिदशायां क्रौर्यभूपालयुद्धै –
र्धनमनलचतुष्पाथ्पीडनं नेत्रतापः l
उदरदशनारोग: पुत्रदारार्तिरुरुच्चै –
र्गुरुजनविरहःस्याद्भृत्यनाशोऽर्यहानिः ll

18. During
SOORYA DASA ( रवि दश ) the general effect will be making wealth by wicked
or cruel deeds or through the King (Government) and by fighting , will suffer
from burning eyes, severe stomach problems and dental problems, lot of troubles
to wife and children, the servants will be separated or lost, loss of wealth,
and separation from parents, elders and revered ones. However PARASARA MAHARSHI
opines that SUN’S DASA in certain positions will give very good results.
“ ll शिशिरकर
दशायां मन्त्रदेवद्वीजोर्वी –
पतिजनितविभूतिःस्त्रीधनक्षेत्रसिद्धिः
l
कुसुमवसनभूषागन्धनानारसाप्ति –
र्भवति
खलविरोधः स्वक्षयो वातरोगः ll “.............१९.
19. During
CHANDRA DASA ( चन्द्रा दश ) , the general attributes will be
that the person having MOON DASA will get wealth through sacred prayers,
deities, Brahmins and from government .
The person will get married and will get wealth, agricultural lands,
good flowers, clothes ornaments etc.
He/She will be misunderstood by wicked people and will lose wealth because of these wicked people and will suffer from rheumatic complaints. I
think being a general statement only, If moon
is having good strength and is positioned in an auspicious manner and in
a favorable house, then in my humple
opinion the moon will give good results.
“ ll क्षितितनायदशायां क्षेत्रवैरक्षितीश -
प्रतिजनितविभूतिः स्यात्पशुक्षेत्रलाभः
सहजतनायवैरं दुर्जनस्त्रीषु सक्ति –
र्दहनरुधिरपित्तव्याधिरर्थोपहानिः

20. During KUJA
MAHAADASHA (कुजमहादश) the native will put efforts to
earn wealth from lands, through litigations and through the government (KING)
He/She might acquire lands or through lands or cattle. He/She might also acquire enmity of his SONS
and brothers and will have contact with bad women (PROSTITUTES) and men, He
will suffer from impurity of blood, excessive heat in body, loss through fire
and loss of wealth.

असुरवरदशायां दुःखभावोऽथावास्या -
दतिगहनगतार्तिःसूनुनार्योर्विनाशः

विशभयमरिपिडाविषणोर्द्ध्वाङ्गरोगः
सुहृदि कृषिविरोधो भूपतेद्वेषलाभः

( Note :- Before I give the meaning of the above
stanza which is attributable in GENERAL, I would like to add that RAHU AND
KETHU being shadowy planets according to PARASHARA MAHARSHI , are said to give the effects of
the Planets to which the houses in which RAHU & KETHU are situated ) “ ll तमौ ग्रहौ शुभास्व्ढाव सम्बन्धेन केनचित्
अन्तर्दशानुरेण भवेतां योगकारकी ll “The meaning is that when RAHU and KETHU are well
placed it will give the native good results.
( .N0te :- Rahu & Kethu, although are two shadowy
planets, their planetary movements are the same . In other words their time of
stay with each house will be I ½ years.
While KETHU (SHIKHI) has MESHA as its House RAHU (SARPPI) has THULA as its
house.Their UCHHA POSITIONS are VRISCHKA AND VRISHABHA respectively. However, some experts opine their Uchcha positions as DHANUS and MITHUNA
respectively. Yet some other experts
opine VRISHABHA and SIMHA as their
Uchcha Rasis and KANYA AND MITHUNA as thir own houses respectively. KINDLY DO
NOT ATTACH MORE IMPORTANCE TO THESE INFORMATONS.)
(21) When RAHU DASHA progresses, it will bring on
the incumbent wicked disposition or he/she will suffer from very dangerous and
incurable disease, loss of wife or
husband and children as per the
incumbent, and danger from poison,
distress and trouble from enemies and will suffer from heart and eye
diseases, will incur animosity of friends and lose servants and agricultural
land and suffer humility from the king or the government.
“ ll अमरगुरुदशायामम्बराद्यर्थसिद्धिः
परिजनपरिवारप्रौढरत्यर्तमानः l
सुतधनसुहृदाप्तिम्ः साधुवादाप्तपूजा
भवति गुरुवियोगः कर्णरोग: कफार्ति: ll

22. During
the Dasa of GURU the native is liable to get good clothes, wealth, good
servants, live in grandeur, will command respect, will have birth of children.
He/She will be eloquent in speech etc. Kindly note these are all general
effect.
“ ll रवितनयदशायां राष्ट्रपीडाप्रहार –
प्रतिजानीतविभूतिः प्रेष्यवृद्धाङ्गनाप्ति l
पशुमहिषवृषाप्तिः पुत्रदारप्रपीडा
पवनकफगुदार्ति: पादहस्ताङ्गतापः

23. The
General effects of SANI DASA are that the native will earn wealth due to some
troubles in the country such as war and fight either by joining the war or by
fighting with relatives which is not clear in the said stanza, and acquire
servants and old ladies ( acquiring old ladies for what purpose is not clear in
the stanza ) , acquire buffaloes and
bulls. The Native will have troubles due to wife and children will suffer from
rheumatic complaints and KAPHA, gout , piles and burning sensation on legs and
hands etc. ( acquiring old ladies for what purpose or which type of old ladies
is not clear in the stanza)

र्द्विजजनितधनाप्ति: क्षेत्रगोवाजिलाभ: l
मानुवरसुरपूजा वित्तसंधातसिद्धिः
प्रभवतिमरुदुष्णश्लेष्मरोगपरपीडा ll

24, The
general effects of BUDHA DASHA (शशितनाय) are that the Native will be getting
the benefits through his/her preceptors or will
become learned and get wealth through preceptors. The person will get benefit from agricultural
lands, cows, horses, vehicles etc. He/she will associate with high status. The incumbent will revere Gods and great-
men. The person will suffer from
rheumatism or with KAPHAM etc.

शिखिजनितदशायां शोकमोहोऽङ्गनाभिः
प्रभुजनपरिपीडा वित्तनाशोऽपराध: l
प्रभवति तनुभाजां प्रोषणं स्वीयदेशा –

25. The General Effects of KETHU DASA
are the Native will suffer from sorrows, and will get into affairs with many ladies (मोहोङ्गनाभि).
He will be troubled by wealth people, and suffer from loss of wealth. The
person will be troubling others and is likely to be banished from the country. The person who has KETHU DASA running will
have dental problems, rheumatism and suffer from KAPHA. ( I request the readers to go through the comments by
me under RAHU DASA )

26. The
General effects of GURU DASHA are. The native will get married and will get
clothes and precious stones or gems, the treasure which is concealed, lot of
wealth, horses, vehicles. The native will get engaged in farming and will
become an exporter and importer, will suffer death of parents, elders and
preceptor, will undertake travel through water, will also have mental torture,
and distress to relatives.
