                                                CHAPTER IX

                       EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT ASCENDANTS                                     

                                                     Ll and other  नवमोदध्याय ll

“  ll  वृत्तेक्षणो दुर्बलजानुरुग्रे भीरुर्जले स्याल्लघुभुक् सुकामी l

       सञ्चारशीलश्र्चपलोऽनृतोक्तिर्प्रणाङ्किताङ्कः क्रियभे प्रजातः ll “...........१

The person with ARIES(मेष)  as ascendant (लग्न) at birth will have round eyes, weak knees, will be fierce looking and in action, will be afraid of water, will not be a good eater, will be very passionate for women, will be standing on his legs (he will not depend on others for any thing), will have active temparament, will have bruised bodand will speak falsehood on others.

“ ll पृथूरुवक्त्रः कृषिकर्मकृत्स्यान्मध्यान्तसौख्यः प्रमदाप्रियश्र्च  l

     त्यागी क्षमी क्लेशश्र्च गोमान् पृष्ठास्यापार्श्र्वऽङ्कयुतो वृषोत्थ्यः ll “...........२.

2. The person whose birth is in Taurus (वृषभ) as the ASCENDANT (लग्न), will have fatty thighs and a huge face. He will be a farmer or owner of farms.  His  happiness will start from the middle portion of his life and at the end of his life. He will like the company of ladies(प्रमदाप्रियश्र्च), will possess  sacrificing  , (त्यागी) and forgiving nature, will be able to endure hardships, and will have cattle. He will have birth marks or black moles on his buttocks or backs, sides or face.

“ ll  श्यामेक्षणःकुञ्चितमूर्द्धजः स्त्रीक्रीडानुरक्तश्र्च  परेङ्गितज्ञः l

       उत्तुङ्गनासः प्रियगीतनृत्तो वसन् सदान्तः सदने च युग्मे ll “.................३.

3. When a person has at birth, the ASCENDANT (लग्न) in the SIGN GEMINI (मिथुन), the person will have black eyes (श्यामेक्षण), his/her hairs will be curly, if it is a man, will be interested in playing with women (स्त्रीक्रीडानुरक्त), will be an expert in professing others thoughts (परेङ्गित) , will have protruding nose  (उत्तुङ्गनास) and fond of music and dance (प्रियगीतनृत्त) and always will like remain  in doors (सदान्तः सदने).

“ ll स्त्रीनिर्जितः पीनगलः समित्रो बह्वालयस्तुङ्गकटिर्धनाढ्ज्ञः

      ह्वस्वश्र्च वक्रो द्रुतगः कुलीरे मेधान्वितरतोयरतोऽल्पपुत्रः ll “  ...........४.

4.  If the ASCENDANT is CANCER (कर्क्किटक) at birth will be henpecked his neck will be fleshy will have a good circle of friends and be an owner of many houses. He will have elevated buttocks and will be very wealthy. He will be Short in appearance and crooked in nature.(ह्रस्वश्रच वक्रो), and will walk fast. He will like cold stuffs, and will be intelligent. He will have less number of male children.  

“ ll  पिङ्गक्षणः स्थूलहनुर्विशालवक्त्रोऽभीमानी सपराक्रमः स्यात् l

      कुप्यत्यकार्य वनशैलगामी मातुर्विधेयःस्थिरधीर्मृगेन्द्रे ll “.............५.

5. If the birth of a person takes place with ASCENDANT (लग्न)  in LEO  (स्थिरधीर्मृगेन्द्र), he will possess red eyes, large chin and broad face, self-esteemed (अभिमानी) , will be a valiant.  He will get agitated even for small things, will be going to forests and hills, will be obedient to his mother (मातुर्विधेय) and will be firm in his actions.

“ ll  स्त्रस्तांसबाहुः परवित्तगेहैः संपूज्यते सत्यरतः प्रियोक्तिः l

       व्रीडालसाक्षः सुरतप्रियः स्याच्छास्त्रार्थविच्चाल्पसुतोऽङ्गनायाम् ll “..............६.

6. When a person is born when Virgo rises i.e.  in कन्या लग्न will have weak shoulders and arms , will stay in the house earned by another person (परवित्तगेहे), wealthy and will be venerated by all , will be honest (सत्यरत)  and speak kindly, He will have bashful eyes and will be liking sexual enjoyment (सुरतप्रिय). He will be well versed in interpreting scriptures and will have only few children.(अल्पसुतो).

“ ll  चलत्कृशाङ्गोऽल्पसुतोऽतिभक्तो देवद्विजानामटनो द्विनामा l

       प्रांशुश्र्च दक्षःक्रयविक्रयेषु धीरोऽदयस्तौलिनि मध्यवादी  ll  “..................७.

7. The person who is born when LIBRA (तुला लग्न), will be lean and tall in stature, will have very limited children, will be a great worshipper of GODS and BRAHMINS, will be roaming ,  will have two names, will be a deft trader will be brave and will deal with others mercilessly  and will be impartial in his dealings.

“ ll  वृत्तोरुजाङ्गः पृथुनेत्रवक्षारोगी शिशुत्वे गुरुतातहीनः l

       क्रूरक्रियो राजकुलाभिमुख्यः कीटेऽब्जरेखाङ्गितपाणिपादः ll “............८.

8. The person born with Scorpio as the ASCENDANT (वृश्चिक लग्न) will have round thighs and knees, wide eyes and chest (पृथुनेत्रवक्षस) , will always suffer from some disease, as a child will lose his father and preceptor (शिशुत्वे गुरुतात गुरुतातहीन), will perform cruel acts, will be honoured by his sovereign and will bear marks of LOTUS (कीटेऽब्जरेखाङ्गित पाणिपादा) on his hands and feet;  in other words, will have on his PADMAREKHA on both his hands and feet.

“ ll  दीर्घास्यकण्ठः पृथुकर्णनासःकर्मोघतः कुब्जतनुर्नृपेष्टः

       प्रागल्भ्यवाक्त्यागयुतोऽरिहन्ता साम्नैकसाध्योऽश्र्विभवो बलाढ्चः  ll “..............९

9.  The native with Sagittarius (धनुस) as ASCENDANT (लग्न), will have long neck, face, ears and nose.  He will be always engaged in some work (in other word he will be workaholic. ).  He will be short in stature i.e. will not have proper height. The Sovereign will have a liking towards him. He will be eloquent in speech.  He will sacrifice everything including himself. He will be courageous and will defeat the enemies.  He will be very wealthy and strong. However, he can be won over by using kind words and persuasion.

“ ll  अधः कृशः सत्वयुतो गृहीतवाक्योऽलसोऽगम्यजराङ्गनेष्टः l

       धर्मध्वजो भाग्ययुतोऽटनश्र्च वातार्दितो नक्रभवो विलज्जः  ll “.........१०

10.  The native with CAPRICORN (मकर) as the ascendant will have his lower limbs weak, but strong mentally, and courageous. He will complete the work given to him.  He will be lazy and will have affairs with elderly women of low status. He will be acting as religious but not in actual sense and will be fond of roaming. The native with MAKARA as LAGNA will be fortunate, will suffer from rheumatism and shameless. *विलज्जः.

“ ll  प्रच्छत्रपापो घटतुल्यदेहो विघातदक्षोऽध्वनिसहोऽल्पवित्तः l

      लुब्धः परार्थो क्षयवृद्धियुक्तो घतिद्धवः स्यात्प्री प्रियगन्धपुष्पः  ll “...........११.

11. A Native with Ascendant in AQUARIUS (कुंभ) will commit sinful deeds without the knowledge of others (प्रच्छत्र पापो) , will possess a body like a pot, will have very little wealth, will be eager to usurp others wealth and use it for himself, will be a miser, will endure long walk on the road, will be clever in hurting others feelings and body, will be fond of perfumes, scent and flowers.  As far as his financial position, he will find ups and downs.

“ ll  अत्यम्बुपानः समचारुदेहः स्वदारगस्तोयजवित्तभोक्ता  l

       विद्वान्कृतज्ञोऽभिभवत्यमित्रान् शुभेक्षणो भाग्ययुतोऽन्त्यराशौ  ll “  .............१२.

12.  If PISCES (मीन) the native will consume excessive water, will possess a symmetrical and handsome figure, will be very fond of his wife, will trade in pearls and other products of the seas and thus make money, will be learned, will remain ever grateful for the help rendered to him, will have attractive eyes, will be fortunate. These are the results of having the last house as ASCENDANT (अन्त्यराशौ).

“ ll राशेः स्वभावाश्रयरूपवर्णान् ज्ञात्वानुरूपाणि फलानि तस्य l

      युक्त्या वदेतत्र फलं विलग्ने यच्चन्द्रलग्नेऽपि तदेव वाचयम्  ll “............१३.

13.  Manthreswara, herein, says that an astrologer should judge correctly the nature, dependence, form, and color etc. and judiciously assess the result taking all effects into consideration and declare the total effects of a particular Raasi in which the Lagna falls. The same should also be said in case the Rasi is also occupied by CHANDRA.

“ ll  ग्रहे सति निजोच्चगे भवति रत्नगर्भाधिपो

       महीपतिकृतस्तुतिर्महितसंपदामालयः l

       उदारगुणसंयुतो जयति विक्रमार्को यथा

       नये यशसि विक्रमे वितरणे धृतौ कौशले  ll “............१४.

14. If the Planet is in its EXALTATION SIGN, the Native will become an emperor who will be praised by the king.  He will be very wealthy and will have excellent qualities and will be like the famous Vikramadithya in valour, administrative skills, liberality, courage, generosity and dexterity.

“ ll  स्वमन्दिरगते ग्रहेपरिग्रहादयातिं

       प्रभुत्वमपि वा गृहस्थितिमचञ्चलां प्राप्नुयात् l

       नवं भवनमुर्वराक्षितिमुपैति काले स्वके

       जने बहुमतिं पुनः सकलनष्टतून्यापि  ll “.............१५.

15. If a Planet occupy its own sign, in a person’s birth chart , such native will acquire all the strength and power of the planet  during the Planet’s DASA period through the help of a beneficence of a lord or a high dignitary or by his own efforts. He will not move out from his residence.  He will have a new house built and possess lands which will be fertile to produce all types of crops.  He will be revered by the people and even get back all lost articles.

“ ll  ग्रहःसुहृतंक्षेत्रगतः सुहृद्भिः कार्यस्य सीद्धिं नव सौहृदं च l

       सत्पुत्रजायाधनधान्यभाघ्यं ददाप्तयं सर्वजनानुकूल्यम्  ll “............१६.

16.  If in a nativity, a planet occupies is friend’s house, then the effect of it will be that the person will succeed in his attempts through friends, will get new friends, will get a dood life partner, will be a father of good sons, will be wealthy, will possess corn (धान्य), and will be helped by the society (सर्वजनानुकूल्यं).

“  ll गते ग्रहे शत्रुगृहं निकृष्टतां परात्रवृत्तिं परमन्दिरस्थितिम् l

       अर्किचनत्वं रिपुपीडनं सदा स्त्रिग्धोऽपि तस्यातिरिपुत्वामाप्नुयात ll  “...........१७

17.  If a planet is situated in an inimical sign (शत्रुगृहं), the person concerned will be of evil disposition, will have to stay in house purchased by others and also will have to depend on others wealth to live and will be oppressed by his enemies.  During the DASA of the planet concerned even his friends will tend to be his enemies.

“  ll नीचे ग्रहेऽधः पतनं स्ववृत्तेर्दौन्यं दुराचारमृणाप्तिमाहुःl

       नीचाश्रयं कीकटदेशवासं भृत्यत्वमध्वानमनर्थकार्यम् ll “..............१८.

18.   If a planet situates in its sign of Debilitation (नीचे ग्रहे) will be demoted from the position he holds,  during its Dasa period, will be humiliated, will perform sinful deeds, will incur debts, will depend on lowly born for support. The person will be living in unsanitary  conditions, he will perform a menial’s job (भृत्य्त्वं), will walk lot of distance and perform useless works.

“ ll  ग्रहो मौढ्यं प्राप्तो मरणमचिरात् स्त्रीसुतधनैः

      प्रहीणत्वं व्यर्थे कलहमपवादं परिभवम् l

      समर्क्षस्थवः खेटो न कलयति वैशोषिकफलं

      सुखं वा दुःखं वा जनयति यथापूर्वमचलम्  ll “..............१९

“ ll  वक्रं गत स्वोच्चफलं विदध्यास्तपत्ननीचर्क्षगतोऽपि खेटः

       वर्गोत्तमांशस्थितखेचरोऽपि स्वक्षेत्रगस्योत्त्कफलानि तद्वत् l............२०.

      

ll इति मन्त्रश्वर विरचितायां फलदीपिकायां मेषादीनां लग्नफलं नाम नवमोध्यायः ll

19.  If in a Horoscope, a planet is combust, i,e. very near to the sun; the person born will during the said planet’s DASA will die within a short period in that DASA. His complete family consisting of wife and children and all his wealth will also be destroyed. He will get into quarrels unnecessarily,  will be incurring the odium of others and humiliated.

If a planet is posited in a neutral sign the result will be that  the fortune and sorrows will be as per the qualities of the planet. (सुखं वा दुःखं वा जनयति यथापूर्वमचलं).

20.  If a planet is in retrogradation. it will produce the effects of staying in its exaltation sign even if it is posited in its enemy’s house or in its debilitation sign. Any planet in its VARGOTHAMA will produce the effects of its own sign.
